The word software has become such a ubiquitous part of our vocabulary that few people stop to think what an all-encompassing term it is. Software is any computer program or data that can be electronically stored.
In 2011 the Wall Street Journal published an article by Marc Andreessen about “why software is eating the world”. Andreessen was referring to technology companies that decimated their brick and mortar counterparts while creating new markets and consumer experiences. We’ve come a long way since then. Whether we are at home, at work or travelling, software is deeply embedded in every aspect of our lives. Automated homes, smart offices, digital factories and connected cars are no longer the future.
It’s safe to say that the software industry has created a whole new world. Just look at the list of top 20 Fortune 100 companies and compare it to only 10 years ago. Software is the wheel that makes the 21st century world go around.
UNIDEL entered the software industry in 2008 when we seeded the “automation” of three broken industry business models in industrial device connectivity, wealth management and academic & career planning. Since then our portfolio of technology companies have created two new global product categories and have enabled faster innovation for automation OEMs.
