- Designation – Lead Software Engineer (Functional Safety)
- Qualification – Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical / Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, or Power Electronics.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage end-to-end embedded design and development projects.
- Lead safety activities as per IEC 61508 across concept, design, implementation, validation, and certification phases.
- Define, maintain, and enforce Safety Plans, Safety Requirements Specifications, and compliance deliverables.
- Drive SIL (1/2/3) compliance activities for hardware and firmware components.
- Interface with TÜV or third-party certifying bodies for assessments and audits.
- Review and guide architecture for safety-critical hardware including redundancy, diagnostics, watchdogs, and safe-state design.
- Support firmware development for safety functions, safe communication, and CPU diagnostics as per SIL requirements.
- Lead the design and development of safety-critical embedded firmware for microcontrollers.
- Ensure firmware is developed following certifiable coding standards (MISRA C, CERT C, HIS metrics).
- Define and implement diagnostic coverage, watchdog mechanisms, redundancy, and safe-state handling.
- Architect firmware modules for:
- Diagnostics and fault detection mechanisms
- Redundancy management
- Safety communication (CRC, watchdog timing, challenge–response mechanisms)
- Hardware abstraction for safety-critical peripherals
- Perform and review safety-related unit testing, static analysis, and code reviews.
- Conduct FMEDA, FTA, and reliability analysis (MTBF, diagnostic coverage).
- Validate hardware-software interfaces for deterministic and safe behavior.
- Prepare and maintain all safety lifecycle documents:
- Safety Plan
- HARA / Hazard Analysis
- FTA, FMEA, FMEDA
- Safety Requirements Specification (SRS)
- Verification & Validation (V&V) reports
- Safety Case documentation
- Ensure QMS alignment and compliance to IEC 61508 processes.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (hardware, firmware, testing, quality, project management).
- Mentor engineers on functional safety principles, guidelines, and best practices.
- Conduct internal Functional Safety training sessions and audits
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical / Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, or Power Electronics.
Experience Requirements:
- 8–12 years relevant experience in embedded firmware development (C/C++).
- TÜV certification in IEC 61508 (Functional Safety Engineer, Professional, or Expert).
Preferred Skills & Expertise
Strong understanding of:
- Microcontrollers (ARM Cortex, TI, STM, Renesas, NXP, Infineon)
- Digital/analog hardware interfaces
- Communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Modbus, RS485, safety protocols)
- Experience with MISRA C, static code analysis (PC-Lint, QA-C, CppCheck), and safety coding standards.
- Hands-on experience with fault detection techniques, diagnostics, watchdogs, memory protection, and redundancy principles.
- Experience leading FMEA, FMEDA, and safety architecture development.
- Strong documentation and communication skills
- Exposure to cybersecurity standards related to industrial and embedded systems (IEC 62443).
- Experience working with third-party safety assessors (TÜV, Exida).
- Prior experience in process improvement, design documentation, and configuration control is an added advantage.
